Pepeu was a Brazilian band from Salvador, Bahia that formed in the early 1970s. Their sound drew from samba, funk, and axé music, and they gained attention with their 1970s album "Geração do Som." That record included "Nomes de Meninas," which became one of their best-known songs.
The band's core lineup featured Pepeu Gomes on guitar and vocals, his brother Jairzinho on drums, and Ricardo Barreto on bass. They released several albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including "Nação Zumbi," "Festa do Interior," and "Clube da Esquina 2." Other songs like "P de Pepeu" and "Veio um Negão" also became part of their catalog.
Pepeu disbanded in the late 1980s. Afterward, Pepeu Gomes continued as a solo artist, releasing his own material and working with other musicians.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
