Pepeu Gomes came up in Salvador, Bahia, in the early 1970s, part of that city's Tropicalista wave. His first album, 'Nação Baiana,' came out in 1972. He was known for his guitar work and a sound that pulled from his Afro-Brazilian roots, along with figures like Jimi Hendrix and Jorge Ben Jor.
In 1980, he released the album 'Infinito Circular,' which had the song 'Mil e Uma Noites de Amor' on it. That track, along with others like 'Sexy Yemanjá' and 'Eu Também Quero Beijar,' became some of his most recognizable work. His music from that period often dealt with themes of love and romance.
There was an arrest for marijuana possession in 1974 that caused some disruption, but he kept recording after that. He put out several more albums through the '70s, including 'Meu Coração' in 1974 and 'Gerações' in 1976.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
