Pepper Rabbit was an indie folk band that formed in New York City. Their 2010 EP 'Harvest Moon' gave them their first real attention, with the title track becoming something people kept coming back to. They followed it with albums like 'Beneath the Oaks' in 2012 and 'Starlight' in 2014.
Their songs, including 'Lake House' and 'Older Brother,' had a quiet, drifting quality. The arrangements were often sparse, built around acoustic guitar and Sarah McLaughlin's vocals, which gave the music an intimate feel. They worked within a familiar indie folk space but found their own pocket within it.
In 2012, there was some noise about 'Harvest Moon' sounding similar to an older folk tune. The band said it wasn't the case, and the discussion faded without much lasting effect. They kept putting out records through the decade, like 'The Lost Tapes' in 2016 and 'Echoes' in 2018.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
