Peppina formed in Paris in the early 2000s around vocalist and songwriter Alexandra Grimal. The band included guitarist François Arno, bassist Marie-Aude Fruitier, and drummer Pierre Barrat. Their debut album was called "L'Étrange Histoire de Mademoiselle Noir."
That album's title track, "Mademoiselle Noir (Miss Black)," became their most recognizable song. They also recorded "La Belle Et La Bête." Their music drew from darkwave and trip-hop, with Grimal's vocals often described as ethereal.
