Period 6 formed in Baltimore in 1998 with Matt Groban on vocals and guitar, Jeff Arthur on guitar, Brian McSweeney on bass, and Dan Estrin on drums. They started playing local bars and clubs, then put out a debut EP called "Teenage Angst" in 2001. That EP got some attention for its raw energy, which led to a major label deal a couple years later.
Their self-titled debut album came out in 2004 and included the single "Cool, See Ya." That song caught on with its catchy hook and became their breakout hit. They followed it with albums like "More Than Just Friends" in 2006 and "Burn Bright" in 2009, which showed a more polished side of their alternative rock sound. Other tracks like "Going Back" and "Lake St." rounded out their catalog.
In 2005, Groban was arrested on drug possession charges, which created some turbulence for the band. They kept going, but Groban eventually left in 2012 to work on solo material. The remaining members have continued to perform and record as Period 6 since then.
