Perle Lama formed in 2001 as a trio of Sarah Perle, Julie LaMotte, and Elsa Fourlon. Their first album, "Emmène moi avec toi," came out the following year and gave them their most recognizable song. The group's sound pulled from folk and pop, with Sarah Perle handling lead vocals and guitar while the others added violin, keyboards, bass, and harmonies.
They put out a few more records through the 2000s, including "Les Nuits d'été" in 2004 and "Sous le soleil des tropiques" in 2006. Songs like "Aime-moi Plus Fort" and "Comme l'air" kept to their style of straightforward, melodic writing. The three women played all the instruments themselves and shared vocal duties, which gave their recordings a consistent, homespun feel.
Perle Lama's music never aimed for grand statements. It worked in a quieter register, built around acoustic arrangements and close harmonies. They kept at it for several years, releasing "Au fil du temps" in 2008, before eventually stepping back from regular recording and touring.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
