Pet Lions formed in Athens in the early 1980s with Dimitris Korgialas on vocals and guitar, his brother Nikos on drums, George Papadimitriou on guitar and keyboards, and Tasos Giapoutzis on bass. They released their first album 'Echoes of a Lost Time' in 1982, followed by 'City Lights' in 1984. Their sound mixed new wave and synthpop with rock elements, which wasn't common in Greece at the time where folk and laiko music dominated.
Their 1986 single 'Girls of Athens' became an international hit, reaching the top of the charts in several countries. The song's lyrics about Athenian women drew some criticism, but the band defended it as a celebration. Other songs from that period include 'I Will Track You Down,' 'Propeller Plane,' and 'Roman History.'
They released two more albums, 'Girls of Athens' in 1986 and 'The Golden Age' in 1988, before their activity slowed. Their later work included songs like 'Stuck At The Bottom' and 'When I Grow Old.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
