Phillipe Bandeira

Phillipe Bandeira came up in Rio de Janeiro, where he started writing songs influenced by the samba, funk, and bossa nova he heard growing up. He put out his self-titled debut album in 1994, and the single 'Amar Não É Pecado' caught on in a big way. The song's straightforward message about love not being a sin seemed to connect with people at a time when conversations about acceptance were particularly charged.

That track became something of an anthem, and Bandeira's music often dealt with themes of love and social issues. He kept recording through the 90s and 2000s, putting out albums like 'Tira a Roupa' in 1997 and 'Pop Brasil' in 2003. His sound pulled from those Brazilian rhythms he grew up with, but had a pop sensibility that made it accessible.
