Pierpoljak was a French band that formed in Paris in 1995, led by rapper Fredy Massamba who performed under the name Pierpoljak. Their sound pulled from hip-hop, reggae, and Afrobeat, with songs like 'La poule aux oeufs d'or' and 'La valse de l'amour' becoming well-known in France around 2000. 'La poule aux oeufs d'or' in particular got attention for its take on materialism.
Their lyrics sometimes got them into trouble. In 2002, one song was accused of encouraging violence against police, which led to a temporary ban of their music videos on TV. The band released albums including 'Pierpoljak' in 1997, 'Je Fais c'Que Je Veux' in 2000, and 'Kapital' in 2005. Other musicians who played with them included DJ Skalp, drummer Manu Katché, and bassist Fidel Fourneyron.
