Pillory formed in Baltimore in 2002 with Ryan Boesch on vocals, Mike Meacham on guitar, Kenny Patterson on bass, and Brian Jenkins on drums. They worked in the extreme metal scene, putting out their debut album 'Irritated As A Hangnail In A Fingerfuck' in 2004. The band played a mix of grindcore and noise rock that was abrasive and confrontational.
They released several more albums over the next decade, including 'Follow the Filth' in 2006, 'The Fire Within' in 2009, and 'Black Like Hell' in 2012. Pillory toured regularly and played shows with bands like Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, and Napalm Death. Their live sets were known for being intense and physical.
The band called it quits in 2016 after about fourteen years together. Their music stayed polarizing, some listeners appreciated the raw energy, while others found the content too vulgar or misogynistic. They never really softened their approach.
