Pilot formed in 1973 with Ian Bairnson and Billy Lyall from Edinburgh. Their song 'Magic' became a hit in 1974, appearing on their debut album 'From the Album of the Same Name.' Lyall left the band in 1975, and they faced a legal dispute with their manager in 1977 that cost them their recording contract. They kept making albums through the 1980s, including 'Second Flight' and 'Morin Heights,' before disbanding in 1991. Other members included David Paton on bass and Stuart Pearson on drums.
