Pimenta formed in 2004 when childhood friends Bruno Boncini and João Paulo Gaglianone started making music together. They had trouble getting record labels interested at first, so they self-produced their debut album and built an audience through live shows.
Their song "Cê Num Guenta" became a hit, mixing reggae, rock, and Brazilian rhythms. The band's lyrics sometimes drew criticism for being political, but they kept writing about social issues anyway.
They continued putting out records through at least 2014 with "Coração Elétrico."
