Vesna Pisarovic

Vesna Pisarović was born in Zagreb in 1978 and started performing professionally in her teens. Her debut album 'Da Znas' came out in 1998, with the title track becoming a hit that reached listeners well beyond Croatia. The song's direct emotional pull seemed to connect with people who didn't even speak the language.

She followed that with albums like 'Na Trenutak' and 'Miris Dunja', maintaining a presence in Croatian pop through the early 2000s. Other songs like 'Da je meni, oko moje' and 'Da sutra umrem' showed her leaning into introspective territory, often dealing with love and longing in plainspoken terms.

In 2008 she represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at Eurovision, which drew some criticism back home due to regional political tensions. She's been known to speak her mind on social issues too, which hasn't always gone over smoothly. The music itself stayed fairly grounded, no grand reinventions, just pop songs that worked when they connected.
