Pittsburgh Slim

Pittsburgh Slim formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the 1990s with Rob Davis on vocals and guitar, Todd Morrow on bass, and Steve Hunter on drums. Their sound had some of the fuzzed-out guitar textures and raw energy you'd hear from bands like Nirvana or Sonic Youth around that time, but they carved out their own space with lyrics that didn't shy away from sexuality and identity.

Their debut album 'Girls Kiss Girls' came out in 1996, and the title track got attention on college radio and MTV. The song's straightforward celebration of female relationships sparked conversations and some predictable backlash from conservative corners, but it connected with listeners looking for something more direct than what mainstream rock was offering at the time.

They followed up with 'The Trouble with Love' in 1998, which continued exploring similar territory with songs like 'My Flashy World.' The band's run was relatively brief, just those two albums, but 'Girls Kiss Girls' remains a specific artifact from that mid-90s moment when alternative rock was still figuring out how much space it could take up.
