Pity Case

Pity Case came together in Seattle during the mid-1990s. The band included vocalist and guitarist David Yow, bassist Krist Novoselic, and drummer Mike Johnson. They put out four studio albums between 1996 and 2006, starting with the self-titled 'King Yosef' in 1996.

That first album's title track, 'King Yosef,' became their most recognized song. Its moody, atmospheric quality drew a particular kind of listener, and the band developed a steady, if modest, following around it. They kept making records through the early 2000s, with albums like 'The Swell' and 'Ocean View.'

Their sound had a certain Seattle feel to it, but it wasn't straightforward grunge. It was slower, more textured, with Yow's distinctive voice floating over the arrangements. They were one of those groups that certain other musicians in the area seemed to appreciate, even if they never broke through to a wider audience.
