Plena

Plena formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s with four musicians: Alexandre Guedes, André Prando, Marcos Valle, and Pedro Guedes. Their sound pulled from samba, funk, reggae, and rock.

In 1996, their debut album included the single "Sonhador," which connected with Brazilian listeners and brought them wider attention. The song became one of their most recognizable tracks, along with "Todos Sonhos do Mundo."

Some critics found their genre-blending too experimental at first, and there were complaints about lyrics that led to a brief radio ban. They kept working, adding hip-hop, electronic, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms to later albums like "Nação Plena" (1999) and "Sem Fronteiras" (2003).

The group has had various musicians come through over time, beyond the original four.
