Pÿlon

Pylon formed in Athens, Georgia in the late 1970s with Michael Norris on vocals and guitar, Kevin Gainsley on guitar, Randy Bewley on bass, and Curtis Crowe on drums. They released their first album 'Gyrate' in 1980, followed by 'Chant' in 1981 and 'Feast on Scraps' in 1983. Their song 'Anaconda' from 1985 became their most recognizable track.

Their music had a straightforward, rhythmic quality that stood apart from much of the post-punk happening at the time. Songs like 'A Walk Through Wonderland' and 'Dream Gone Wrong' moved with a steady pulse that felt more physical than cerebral. The band broke up in 1985 after releasing the compilation 'Hits' the previous year.

Pylon reunited in 2010 to play shows and recorded the album 'Dig.' Their earlier work, particularly the 1982 reissue 'Gyrate Plus,' has maintained a quiet presence in conversations about that era of American independent music.
