P.MC formed in Rio de Janeiro's favelas in the mid-1990s. The group's name stands for Pretos, Mulaqueiros, Criminosos, which translates to Black, Thugs, Criminals. Their music mixed funk carioca with hip-hop and soul elements, creating a sound that felt specific to their environment.
The song "Sem Me Entregar" became particularly well-known, serving as an anthem for some while drawing criticism from others for its content. They released several albums including P.MC in 1998, Vamos Dançar in 2000, and Nosso Mundo in 2003.
Other songs like "Eu Te Avisei," "Alô Brasil," and "Vamo Falá" show their range within their style. The group included members DJ Hum, Mc Sapão, Batoré, Smith, and Maomé. Mc Sapão died in 2013, but P.MC continued releasing music with albums like A Vida É Desafio in 2018.
