Police Play Eggs

Police Play Eggs formed in New York City in 1997 with Jacktroseanne (born John Strunin) on vocals, Sarah Jane Harvey on bass and vocals, and Tony Maxwell on multiple instruments. They put out their first album, 'Jacktroseanne,' in 2000, which included the song of the same name. That track, along with others like 'My Dog' and 'Ok? Ok!,' became part of their catalog of experimental rock that leaned into noise and electronic textures.

They followed that debut with 'Loves of the Jet Set' in 2002, the same year a stage fire during a live show caused some disruption. The band kept recording, releasing 'The Sun is Not the Only Star' in 2005, 'The Wonder and the Courage' in 2009, and 'Rust and Silver' in 2013. Their music often worked with dissonant melodies and cryptic lyrics, avoiding straightforward rock conventions.

While their live shows and material sometimes drew strong reactions, they maintained a steady output through the 2000s and into the early 2010s. The records document a group that preferred texture and atmosphere over traditional songcraft, with Jacktroseanne's vocal delivery acting as a central, unsettled presence.
