Polite Fiction

Polite Fiction formed around musician and producer John McDaid, who plays piano and writes much of the material. He works with singer Gavin James and drummer Eoghan O'Neill. Their first album, 'The Raven and the Rose,' came out in 2012, followed by a self-titled record in 2015 that included the track 'Arrow.'

That song 'Arrow' became a recognizable piece for them, along with others like 'Carry On (We'll Be Here When You Get Back)' and 'Come a Little Closer.' Their sound tends to blend ambient textures with folk and rock elements, which some listeners find cohesive and others find deliberately hard to pin down.

They've recorded with additional musicians at times, including violin players, but the core trio remains McDaid, James, and O'Neill. The band hasn't released a major statement in several years, but the albums and songs they put out in the 2010s still surface in playlists and among listeners who favor that kind of layered, atmospheric indie music.
