Ponto Seis

Ponto Seis formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1970s, led by vocalist and composer Marcus Viana. Their sound was raw and experimental compared to the polished pop of the time, with lyrics that addressed poverty and social issues. They built a following playing in underground clubs when record labels and radio stations found their music too confrontational.

In 1982 they released their debut album, which included the song "Cão Vira Lata." The title translates to "stray dog," and the track became an anthem that resonated with many Brazilians. Some found its depiction of violence and poverty too bleak, while others saw it as a powerful statement about inequality.

Other songs like "Caruda," "Chuva de Verão," and "Me Deixe Sonhar" appeared in their catalog, but "Cão Vira Lata" remained their most recognized work. The band continued performing through the 1980s and 1990s with Viana at the helm.
