Pony Up started in Denver with brothers Clayton and Kelsey Doley and Michael Wood. They played local clubs around town, working out a raw rock sound that eventually led to their self-titled debut in 2009. The album had a track called "Dance For Me" that got some attention.
They toured for a while, opening for bands like The Black Keys and Arctic Monkeys. In 2013 they put out "Velvet Elvis," and followed it with "Sun Damage" in 2018. Other songs from their catalog include "I Heard You Got Action" and "Marlon Brando's Laundromat."
There was some talk about a backstage incident in 2012 involving another band, but it didn't stop them from making more music. They kept playing shows and recording when they could.
