Possessed formed in the Bay Area in 1983, part of that region's thrash metal scene. Their 1985 debut album 'Seven Churches' featured songs like 'Death Metal' and 'Burning In Hell,' with guttural vocals and dark themes that stood out even among metal bands of the time. The lineup included Jeff Becerra on vocals and bass, Mike Torrao on guitar, and Larry LaLonde on guitar before he joined Primus.
They followed up with 'Beyond the Gates' in 1986, then released a live album called 'Eyes of Darkness' that same year. The band went on hiatus in the late 1980s but reunited in 2007 with Becerra as the only original member still involved.
