Powerspoonz formed in Manila in 2009 as a quartet with Japs Mendoza on vocals, Wing Hilario on guitar, Brian Gorospe on bass, and Pat Cruz on drums. They started playing in the city's underground circuit, working through the usual early financial constraints that most new bands face.
Their 2011 single "Bakbakan" became a hit in the Philippines, with its high-energy delivery connecting with local audiences. They followed it with their debut album "The Bakbakan Album" in 2012, which mixed rock and pop-punk with some Filipino folk touches.
Later albums included "Panalo" in 2014, "Simulan" in 2017, and "Tagos" in 2020.
