Press Play formed in 2010 as an electropop quartet from Nashville. Their debut EP 'Make a Scene' showed a mix of pop, rock, and electronic sounds. The band's lineup originally included Dave Barnes on vocals and guitar, Jayme Dee on vocals and keyboards, Jimmy Barnes on bass, and Chris Reynolds on drums.
In 2012, Press Play had their breakout with the single 'Break It Out,' which became an anthem for their growing audience. That same year they released their self-titled debut album. Other songs like 'Fixation' and 'I'm Alive' helped define their energetic approach to electropop.
Jimmy Barnes left the band in 2014, and Chris Herren joined as the new bassist. In 2017, Press Play faced criticism over lyrics in their song 'Revolution,' which some interpreted as having an anti-establishment message. The band defended the song as part of their artistic vision.
