Proclaim Music formed in 1997 when brothers Ian and Peter Jobling started playing together in Scotland. Their early albums like 'Friend for Life' (1999) and 'Awake' (2001) established them as a contemporary Christian band with straightforward pop-rock arrangements and clear worship lyrics.
Their song 'Jesus Reigns Forever' became particularly well-known in church circles, along with other straightforward praise songs like 'Awesome God' and 'We Praise You Lord.' The band's lineup eventually included Ian on vocals and guitar, Peter on bass, Becky Jobling on keyboards, Ricky Nairn on drums, and Neil Currie on guitar.
They kept releasing albums through the 2000s and 2010s, including 'Exodus' in 2004 and 'Unseen' in 2015. In 2006, Ian Jobling's skin cancer diagnosis led to a break in their schedule. Their 2012 album included a cover of a U2 song that drew some criticism from Christian listeners who preferred they stick to original worship material.
