Proclaimers

The Proclaimers are Scottish identical twin brothers Craig and Charlie Reid from Leith, Edinburgh. They started playing music together in local pubs as teenagers and released their first album 'This Is the Story' in 1987. Their second album 'Sunshine on Leith' came out the following year and included the song 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)', which became a global hit.

That song's straightforward declaration of devotion, delivered in their thick Scottish accents over a simple guitar-driven arrangement, gave them an unlikely international presence. They've continued writing and recording since, with albums like 'Hit the Highway' in 1994 and 'Angry Cyclist' in 2018. Other songs in their catalog include 'Cap In Hand' and 'Beautiful Truth'.

They've always worked as a duo, with both brothers singing and playing guitar. Their lyrics often draw from Scottish life and politics, though they're probably still best known for that one persistent walking song that refuses to fade from radio playlists and movie soundtracks.
