Prodigio

Prodigio formed in the mid-1990s in Almada, just south of Lisbon. The group's core members included Icarius, Sensible Soc, and Deezy. They started making music when Portuguese hip-hop was still largely underground, drawing from their experiences in the suburbs.

Their 2001 self-titled debut album established their sound, followed by releases like "O Último Capítulo" in 2004 and "Alvorada" in 2008. Songs like "Pra Sempre" and "Máquina do Tempo" show how they blended hip-hop with Portuguese musical elements. They worked with artists including Jimmy P and Dino D'Santiago.

Prodigio's lyrics often addressed social issues like poverty and discrimination, which connected with listeners but sometimes sparked debate. They became one of Portugal's more prominent hip-hop acts without smoothing out the rough edges in their music or message.
