Projeto 4Elementos formed in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1994. Their sound mixed rap and funk with Brazilian rhythms, which felt different from what else was happening in hip-hop at the time. The original group included Marcelo D2 and Skunk on vocals, with DJ Rick and DJ Nuts handling the turntables. Mário Caldato Jr. produced their early work.
They put out their first album in 1995, which included the track 'Inlucidus.' Over the next two decades, they released records like 'Acústico MTV' in 2005 and 'Favela Ta Onda' in 2017. Their songs often dealt with social issues, and in 2006 they got into a dispute with the Brazilian government over the use of the word 'favela' in one of their tracks.
The lineup changed over time. DJ Rick left in 2008, and Skunk faced legal trouble in 2013. Through it all, they kept making music that connected with people in Brazil's hip-hop scene. Songs like 'A Real É Essa' and 'Mundano' show their range from introspective to street-level storytelling.
