Projeto 78 Schmidt formed in São Paulo in 2014 with Pedro Brandt on vocals and guitar, Fernando Almeida on guitar, Felipe Soares on bass, and Daniel Szegedi on drums. Their sound mixed rock and funk in ways that didn't always fit what Brazilian radio was playing at the time.
Their 2016 song "Óbvio, Notório" became a hit that year, getting airplay and connecting with listeners. They released three albums: their self-titled debut in 2016, "Óbvio, Notório" in 2017, and "Incendiário" in 2019. Szegedi left in 2017 and was replaced by Bruno Godoi on drums.
Some of their lyrics drew criticism for being too political or direct, but Brandt, Almeida, and Soares kept working together through lineup changes. Songs like "Declaração" and "Não Posso Ser Você" show their approach to writing about relationships and social observations without softening the edges.
