Projeto Vinagrete

Projeto Vinagrete formed in São Paulo around 2013. They're a collective that mixes rap and funk with Brazilian rhythms like samba and maracatu, though that description feels more like a press note than something you'd hear at one of their shows. Their first album, Educado Caducou, came out in 2015, and the title track became something of an anthem. Songs like A Gira and B-A Ba do Abaeté show their knack for sharp, rhythmic writing.

They followed that with Todo Mundo Vai Morrer in 2018 and Nossos Ossos in 2021. The lyrics often touch on social issues, which has drawn some criticism from conservative corners. But the music itself is what sticks, it's loose and energetic, built around a core of Andrew Peres on vocals, Rodrigo Ferreira on bass, Guilherme Lenz on drums, and Jean Baptista on saxophone and flute.

Their live sets have a raw, immediate feel. It's less about polished fusion and more about the groove of tracks like Canto de Arruar or the sway of Neguinha. They haven't really broken out as a mainstream act, but they've built a steady following in Brazil by keeping things direct and unpretentious.
