Pura Sedução formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s with vocalist Patrícia de Souza, guitarist Wanderson Costa, bassist Márcio Rufino, and drummer Anderson Sá. Their music mixed samba, funk, and axé into something danceable and direct.
Their debut single "Meu Desejo" became an instant hit across Brazil, with its sensual lyrics and insistent beat. The song's success made them one of the country's most popular groups almost overnight.
Their lyrics and stage presence drew criticism as overly suggestive, leading to legal challenges and public backlash. The band argued they were celebrating female sensuality, but the controversies followed them through their career.
Patrícia de Souza left briefly in 2007 before returning in 2010, and other original members departed at various points. The band continued with new members, releasing several albums that sometimes incorporated rock, pop, and hip-hop elements alongside their core sound.
