Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi formed in 1997 with vocalist Gulraj Singh, guitarist Rajat Dholakia, bassist Nitin Malik, and drummer Pradeep Barot. They started playing local clubs and college shows, building an audience with their straightforward pop sound. Their debut album 'Kabhi Kabhi' came out in 1999, followed by 'Tere Bin' in 2001 and 'Anjaane' in 2004.
Their song 'Woh Pehli Baar Jab Hum Mile' became widely known, though in 2001 there were some public questions about its origins. The band said they were drawing from Bollywood folk traditions. After their 2008 hiatus, Gulraj Singh put out solo work and Rajat Dholakia moved into production.
