Pyramaze formed in 2001 when keyboardist Jonah Weingarten and guitarist Tommy Karevik started working together. Their early sound drew from progressive metal acts like Symphony X and Dream Theater, mixing those influences with some classical touches. They released their self-titled debut in 2004, followed by 'Melancholy Beast,' which got them noticed in metal circles.
After Karevik left to join Kamelot, the band regrouped with vocalist Matt Barlow, formerly of Iced Earth. Their fourth album, 'Disciples of the Sun,' came out in 2008 and gave them a fresh start. The title track, 'Disciples Of The Sun,' along with songs like 'Obsession' and 'A Beautiful Death,' showed their knack for melodic metal with a narrative edge.
