P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Things) came together in the early 2000s with five members: Cassandra Lucas, Aimee Mann, Laura Marling, Juana Molina, and Beverly Martin. Their first notable track was 'A Girl Can Dream,' which caught some attention with its layered harmonies and pop sensibility. The group's sound had folk touches and electronic textures, though it wasn't always an easy fit for radio formats at the time.

In 2005, they faced plagiarism claims around a song called 'A Boy Can Dream,' which created a stir but didn't stop them from putting out more music. They released albums like 'Dreamweaver' and 'Electric Dreams,' the latter leaning into danceable rhythms. Songs such as 'Dancin'' and 'Down For Whatever' showed their shift toward upbeat, groove-oriented material.

Their lineup brought together distinct voices, Lucas on lead vocals, Mann on guitar, Marling's folk instrumentation, Molina's percussion, and Martin's keyboards. That mix gave their recordings a varied, sometimes experimental quality, even when working within pop structures. They kept recording through the 2000s, with later albums including 'Renaissance' and 'Celestial.'
