Qathrunnada formed in Bandung in 1995 with Dina Mariana on vocals, Budi Rahardjo on guitar, Hendri Lamiri on bass, and Ujang Suryadi on drums. Their debut album 'Ampunkan Kami' came out in 1997, and its title track became a hit in Indonesia. The band's music often dealt with spiritual themes, as heard in songs like 'Perjuangkan Allah' and 'Ingat Tuhan'.
Some religious groups criticized their lyrics for being too explicit about topics like premarital sex and drug use. Qathrunnada kept releasing music anyway, putting out albums like 'Munajat' in 2001 and 'Soulmate' in 2003. Their sound mixed rock and pop with traditional Indonesian elements.
In 2010, Dina Mariana was arrested for drug possession, which led to a break from performing. The band came back with the album 'Kembali' in 2013. Their lineup changed over time, with musicians like Nunu Ariyanto and Yudika joining at different points, though Mariana remained the constant vocal presence.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
