Qi Abaixo de Zero formed in the suburbs of São Paulo in 1981, originally calling themselves Metralhadora. The early lineup included Rogério Skylab on vocals, Sérgio Serra on guitar, Miguel Barella on bass, and Marco Lemos on drums. Their debut album 'Mississipi Delta' came out in 1984 and included the track 'Maria Mariana,' a ballad about a young woman facing poverty.
Their performances sometimes caused trouble. Rogério Skylab stayed through it all.
They put out eight studio albums over roughly three decades, including 'O Último Grande Herói' in 1988, 'Cólera e Luxúria' in 1994, and 'Álbum' in 2013. Another song people remember is 'Zé Encardidão.' Their music had a raw, punk-influenced sound and lyrics that touched on social issues, which connected with listeners in Brazil's counterculture scene at the time.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
