Quando Inhambú Cantou no Meu Quintal formed in the early 2000s around frontman Felipe Catto, taking their name from the inhambú bird's call. They worked out of Santa Catarina, Brazil, with a sound built on acoustic guitars and Catto's vocals. Their songs like 'Cantiga do Viver' and 'A Fronteira' often carried a gentle, introspective quality.
Their 2005 debut 'A Conversa Universal' established their approach, followed by albums including 'A Fronteira' in 2009 and 'Vozes do Além' in 2013. The band included musicians like André Abujamra on drums and Fábio Sá on bass. In 2017 they released 'Abrigo', which featured a collaboration with singer Marisa Monte.
Some found their music too melancholic, and there were occasional questions about the band's name, which Catto explained as spiritual rather than anything else. They kept making music that felt personal, with songs like 'Quarto Dos Fundos' and 'Chamamé Das Estrelas' reflecting that inward focus without trying to fit a particular mold.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
