Quanteisha came out of New Orleans with a single called "Get Loose" in 2005. The band was led by vocalist and guitarist Quanteisha Benjamin, with Fleur Delacroix on drums, Etienne "T-Bone" Dubois on bass, and Marcel "Sax" Lefebvre on saxophone. They put out a few albums over the next decade, including Freedom of Expression in 2007 and The Soul of New Orleans in 2015.
Their music mixed soul, funk, jazz, and rock in a way that felt loose and lived-in. Benjamin's lyrics often touched on social themes, and her outspokenness brought the band both attention and some friction.
Quanteisha kept performing at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and stayed active in local causes. The band's sound was always rooted in that city's particular rhythm, even as their lineup and the music around them shifted.
