Quarta Cor

Quarta Cor formed in São Paulo around 2000 with Vinicius Bender on vocals and guitar, Marcelo Leite on bass, and Diego Leite on drums. They put out four albums between 2004 and 2011, starting with Auto Retrato and ending with O Que Resta. Their songs, like O Swing e a Dor and Manhã de Outono, had a raw, guitar-driven sound that drew from alternative rock and post-punk, with lyrics that often felt personal and inward-looking.

Vinicius Bender's writing gave the band its character. Tracks such as Auto Retrato and Última Dose de Uisque dealt with struggle and alienation, which connected with a certain segment of Brazilian listeners in the 2000s. Their music wasn't flashy or overly produced; it leaned into emotional intensity without much polish.

They had their share of difficulties, including money problems and changes in the lineup. In 2008, they caused a stir with a performance at a religious festival that some found offensive. The band kept going for a few more years, but they haven't been active in a while. Their records, especially the early ones, still get played by fans who appreciated that unvarnished, guitar-based approach.
