Quarteirão Vazio formed in Lisbon in the early 1980s with Pedro Galhoz on vocals and guitar, Rui Reininho on guitar, Fernando Júdice on bass, and Paulo Gonçalves on drums. Their music leaned toward post-punk and art rock, with lyrics that felt introspective and sometimes touched on social themes. They put out albums like Autocarro in 1984 and Caixa de Fósforos in 1985.
Their song Caixa de Fósforos, which dealt with homosexuality, drew some conservative criticism at the time. The band kept a core of Galhoz and Reininho through lineup shifts, and they released a few more records including Passeio com Demónios in 1987 and A Guerra dos Afectos in 1991.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
