Quarteto Univox formed in 1952 at the University of Coimbra with four students named Pedro, Pedro, Jorge, and João. They worked with acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies, drawing from traditional fados and ballads.
Their song "Breve" came out in 1962 and became particularly well-known in Portugal. The group also recorded other tracks like "Eterno Lar" and "O Mesmo Eu."
During the Estado Novo regime, they dealt with censorship that limited what they could perform. Their music continued to reach listeners who appreciated their approach to Portuguese folk styles.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
