Quarteto Visceral formed in São Paulo in 1994. Their debut album 'Rara Missão' came out in 1997, with lyrics that leaned toward social commentary. The music pulled from jazz, rock, and Brazilian folk, though their live shows sometimes drew criticism for being too confrontational.
They followed with 'Ruínas' in 1999 and kept recording through the 2000s, putting out albums like 'Memória' in 2003 and 'Nau' in 2007. The lineup has shifted over time, but founding members Ricardo Herz, Fabio Sá, and Alexandre Fontanetti have been constants, joined more recently by drummer Fabiano Versolato.
They've toured in Europe and South America, and their 2013 self-titled album rounded out a run of records that stayed true to their initial blend of styles and themes.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
