Archive material and source history
Quarto formed in 2004 with four musicians from Rio de Janeiro: Amanda Magalhães on vocals, Bruno Cruz on guitar, João Cavalcanti on bass, and Paulo Nazareth on drums. Their debut album, also called "Quarto," mixed pop, samba, and Brazilian folk. They followed it with records like "Pé na Estrada," "Tudo É Pra Já," and "Dê um Rolê."
One of their best-known songs is "Ah Se Fosse Assim Só," which became something of an anthem. Other tracks like "Nosso Quintal," "Canto Quieto," and "Minha História" show their range. In 2016, there were accusations that they'd plagiarized lyrics for "Ah Se Fosse Assim Só," but the band denied it and the matter didn't seem to stick.
They've kept a steady presence in Brazilian music since then, working in that space between pop and regional styles without much fuss.
