Querschläger formed in the early 1970s in Wuppertal, with Peter Bursch on vocals and guitar, Klaus Wussow on bass, and Jürgen Juchmes on drums. Their debut album came out in 1973, featuring the track 'Autobahn' that became their most recognizable song. The band's sound had a raw, energetic quality that drew from German expressionism and the Velvet Underground.
Their music sometimes faced resistance for its political content and unconventional approach. They kept recording through the mid-1970s with albums like 'Hass' and 'Schwermetall,' which incorporated elements of punk and electronic music alongside their rock foundation. Other songs from their catalog include 'Alpenhrose/Wüdsau' and 'Am End van Tag.'
Querschläger disbanded around 1980. Their work, particularly 'Autobahn,' maintained a presence in discussions of German rock from that period.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
