Quruli formed in 1992 when Masafumi Goto and guitarist Souichirou Nakamura started playing together. Their early sound mixed distorted guitars with ambient textures and Goto's distinctive vocals, which found an audience in Japan's underground scene. They put out their self-titled debut album in 1994.
Over the next decade, the band released records like "The World Is Mine" and "Air," and later "Walk" in 2004. Some of their songs include "Hometown," "SAMPO," and "Akai Densha." Goto's lyrics often touch on alienation and searching for meaning.
Quruli's lineup has included bassist Shigeru Kishida and drummer Satoru Suzuki alongside Goto and Nakamura. Their music has been part of the Japanese rock landscape since the 1990s, with a discography that runs through albums like "Jinsei" in 2013.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
