R4KA formed in 2012 in Peru with Renzo Bravo on vocals, Raúl Rodríguez on guitar, Renzo Ruiz on bass, and Armando Angulo on drums. They built a sound that mixed rock and reggae, which eventually got tagged with the name 'Estilo Rottweiler' after one of their songs. That track, along with others like 'Cisne Negro' and 'Escolhas,' became central to their catalog.
Their music often carried a direct, sometimes explicit edge, touching on social themes. They released albums like 'Sangre de Tiburón' in 2014, 'Malcriados' in 2017, and 'Algoritmos' in 2020. In 2016, they won an MTV Latin America Award for Best New Band.
'Estilo Rottweiler' gained traction beyond Peru, appearing in various media and live sets. The band's straightforward blend of styles found listeners without much polish or pretense.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
