Archive material and source history
Rachel Rabin came up through the local underground scene in the Midwest, where she formed a band at 17. Her sound drew from the grunge and alternative rock of the early 1990s. In 1997, she began working with producer David Alan Mills and songwriter Terry Bickers, which led to the creation of her most recognized song, "Raise the Dead."
That song came out in 1999 and became her signature track. Its haunting melody and Rabin's vocals connected with listeners, giving her a cult following. She released her debut album, "The Depth of My Despair," in 2002, which continued in that introspective, emotionally raw vein.
