Radiofônicos formed in Porto in the late 1970s, with Rui Veloso on vocals and guitar. Their debut album 'Ar de Rock' came out in 1980. The song 'Garibaldo' from 1982 became their biggest hit, a straightforward rock track that caught on widely in Portugal. Other songs like 'Você É Meu Inferno' and 'Amanhã Eu Quero Mais' show the band's range within a rock and pop framework.
The band's lineup included Zé Pedro on guitar, Tim on bass, and Carlos Maria Trindade on drums. They released a few more albums after 'Garibaldo', including 'Fora de Moda' in 1983 and 'Boca' in 1984. Radiofônicos disbanded in 1984, not long after that last record came out.
Some of their lyrics touched on social themes, which drew attention at the time. The music holds up as a particular strain of Portuguese rock from that period, with 'Garibaldo' still getting airplay decades later.
