Radney Foster

Radney Foster grew up in Del Rio, Texas, where he absorbed the storytelling traditions of country and folk music. He started his career in the early 1980s by forming the duo Foster & Lloyd with Bill Lloyd, releasing several albums together before going solo. His 1992 album "Del Rio, TX 1959" and 1995's "Labor Day" established him as a songwriter with a plainspoken, personal approach.

Songs like "A Real Fine Place to Start" and "If You Want To Be Loved" show his knack for straightforward narratives that avoid grand gestures. He's kept recording over the decades, putting out albums like 2017's "Another Way to Go," and his live bands have occasionally included players like harmonicaist Pat Bergeson.

Foster has been open about dealing with alcohol addiction in the 1990s, which affected his work for a time. He came through that period and continued writing and performing, maintaining a modest but steady presence in the Americana and country circles without chasing mainstream trends.
